20 min drink up time
« on: May 30 - 2009 »
Samsmiths new policy now all customers have got to be out of his pubs by 11.30 ( 11.00 sundays) and this must be . watch out managers as if and when he calls on you at these times and customers are in . its just another way of getting rid of you for not carrying out company policy ( beware ).at least managers can lock up and go and have a drink in another local that sells his beer anyway ,with music, television, just think new years eve all done and dusted by 11.30.. ;D

Yes, can confirm its true, my local manager was shaking his head in disbelief. It seems as though Humphrey is just sitting in his office trying to invent new ways of trying to drive customers out. In no way am I advocating serving after closing time, but it is nice not to be rushed out onto the streets by a manager standing over you, demanding your glass bang on 11.20. Most customers drift out quite happily at this time anyway, but to be bullied and harried out (which is what this latest directive implies - regardless of whether you have any drink left or not at 11.30) simply brings another source of irritation into my life as a Sams regular.
Mr Smith. Please. You have a company that was a great monument to British culture and heritage, and you are increasingly making it the laughing stock of the industry. Whatever plight your pubs find themselves in, do not blame the managers, the smoking ban or the credit crunch. The vast portion of blame lies firmly at your doorstep, Mr Smith. Hand over to your son before it is too late. In fact hand it over to anyone. Anyone at all, even an MP would do a better job than you!!!!!

Have just got back into the country from a few weeks abroad, looking forward to the weekly quiz at my local. get there for 9.30 start, find they have had to  bring start forward to 9.00. Why? The notice by the door says it all!  How can any business hope to thrive at any time, let alone when the whole hospitality sector is suffering, by driving its customers away and putting its staff in the awkward position of having to throw them out? Not very hospitable, Humphrey!

One theory about this bizarre edict - could it be that the brewery is trying to show to industrial tribunals that their staff do not work more than the maximum hours allowed by their contracts and all their landlords are safely tucked up in bed by 11.30?
