Just to let you know he doesn't pay council tax on the empty properties, he's too shrewd for that.
You don't have to pay tax is the building if not fit for human habitation, so what does Hump do??
Takes out the bathrooms, those boarded up houses are nothing but shells.

Thanks for that - definitely a case for the Empty Homes Agency then.

At a public meeting in Tadcaster the Boss of Selby Council was asked about all the empty houses in Tadcaster that are owned by the Brewery.
His response was that they would love to do something about them, but it was not worth the hassle. It would cost the council tax payer alot of money due to the legal processes that the Brewery would go to, to challenge the council.

Thanks for that info too - the more you learn about this man, the more extraordinary it gets - lets all hope the media people are reading this and can spot a story or two here!

Bear in mind - this is the man who purchased a beautiful barn conversion home - and turned it back into a barn! And no - not because he needed a barn  ???

Do we know why he did this then? Was it part of his obsession to protect the green belt?

I heard a different version from Tadfan of the eviction saga of the charity shop in Tadcaster by Humphrey. The story went that the vicar of Tadcaster wanted to rip out some of the pews and replace them with chairs in a semicicular fashion around the altar so that everyone would feel more part of the service, rather than sitting in serried rows facing the front. the church council and most of the congregation thought this was a good idea in line with modern ideas of worship and would allow more participation. However, there was one prominent objector......... can you guess who? He said 'if you make any changes to this church, your charity shop can b***** off from my shop'. Congregation obviously did not like being dictated to in this way, but the result is that they had to move. guess what...the shop is still empty.

I do not claim this version to be any more true than Tadfans, it may be part of the rich seam of stories about humphreys behaviour. certainly I  have heard the 'shoes'  story more than once! However, in his case I am prepared to believe that fact is stranger than fiction!

Saw Mr Smith on Sunday, looked as if he had been to Church, he was walking down the High Street in his Sunday best.
Also saw him tonight as he was leaving the office, he was walking over the Bridge with his briefcase (plastic carrier bag).

He does look considerably older than the photo the BBC showed.

Is'nt it a fair way
to walk to his mansion in the dark, he may get attacked. Has'nt he got a car or better still a chauffer to pick him up. If he did get mugged I wonder if the attacker would find money in his pockets or a couple of beer mats.

Saw him again tonight walking over the bridge wearing wellingtons but carrying his shoes!
I presume he parks in the car park next to the bus station.
Don't know why he doesn't use the Sam Smiths car park.

Wellies are because his shoes leak.

There isn't one, he lives in a mansion. Not all the rooms are lived in, but it certainly isn't boarded up.

Does all his family still live there with him such as his son or has he now got his own place.
