We got a rather brief visit at our local in Beverley last night. Blink, and you missed him!
He was only initially noticeable by his obligatory blue vinyl covered folder stuffed with white paper, under his arm - being carried almost as a badge of authority.
He looked a bit bedraggled, and after what seemed to be a brief word in the ear of the holding manager - he was off without his usual meander around.
It could have been something to do with it being a Friday at around 10pm - although it wasn't too congestive, not like it used to be. That came to an abrupt end after he sacked John and Jo. And the room upstairs (often closed by the recently dismissed managers) has only recently been continually re-opened by the holding manager (Richard) so it will take some time to build up again.
Maybe Humps wanted to get out quickly, to avoid any conversations with anyone else. Apparently a friend of mine politely called across to Humphs, "Good evening Mr Humphrey", but got no response. Maybe Humphs didn't hear him - or maybe he's got a lot on his mind!!!

In previous years, our pub (Nellies) has been beautifully decorated extensively throughout, by former manager, Anna - who clearly loved the festive season. She went to a great deal of effort. And although before escaping before last Christmas, had already decorated the place, ready for the take-over by the also popular John and Jo -who Humps should be approaching to manage the place now - if he must replace Richard in favour for a couple - remember Humps, you admitted that sacking them was an error of judgement - God has given you the opportunity to put right that wrong - but I'm sure that will never happen!!!

So what will Christmas and new years eve be like this year? Well because of the closing times, and recent decline of the place - not so good I fear. I've already heard many, who used to always frequent the place over the holiday period, say they will be going elsewhere - including the soon-to-reopen, newly refurbished pub across the road - which has just become a free house, and do something beyond Sam's - aim to cater for their customers!
You see Humphs - selling cheap beer isn't the answer to everything!!
