The Repointing to the brickwork at the front of the White Horse (nellies) in Beverley is a disgrace.

If that is indeed correct, then I'm sure the East Riding Council conservation officer would be very interested to know.

An interesting possible connection, BigJim.  Selby District Council area has a population of 82,000 (Wikipedia).  It doesn't take too much deduction to arrive at THE HUMP costing the local council tax payers money.  He would argue that as a resident he has the right to contest council decisions (and this is true).  He would also argue that he provides employment for a great many people in the Selby District Council area, which is also true, and these people pay local taxes as a result.  The problem with THE HUMP is the possibility that some of the council decisions that he has taken to judicial review are not legitimate and just a waste of people's time and money.

To clarify, I didn't mean that the beer itself was inconsistent, just the distribution of!  That is, OBB and Alpine can't be bought in every pub, therefore the distribution of the beer is inconsistent!  Hope that makes that one clearer!

Off on a tangent, but OBB isn't supplied to every pub due to potential quality issues - ie, if they can't sell enough to guarantee quality, they don't get it, and I have that from the horse's mouth in a recent conversation with you-know-who!

Re Alpine, I can't understand why every pub doesn't sell it. It's far superior to Taddy but I'll bet the latter is far more profitable.

Fair comments.  However, Sinclair's Oyster Bar is in the centre of Manchester in a busy zone next to a real ale pub that sells eight real ales.  When I last went there was perhaps 100 people sat outside the two pubs.  A vast majority of them had SS glasses (plastics).  I cannot envisage OBB Cask not selling well in SOB.

I don't know for sure - but my hunch is that SSOB owns the pub next door - but I'm too mean to do a Land Registry search!

Could be a possibility...it doesn't carry much in the way of signage on the outside (although this could be down to the architectural importance of the building, having been first built in 1520).

I'm back in Nellies tomorrow. I will go in by the front door and have a good look.

Just in case there's some confusion - I was referring to the pub next door to Sinclairs Oyster Bar Manchester - my hunch is that it might be owned by SSOB or a subsidiary company - just a hunch - but would need a Land Registry search to confirm or not.

Reading the announcement about Nellies, there's a good chance I'll get thrown  out tomorrow. :(

Dress like THE HUMP...be on your mobile and carry a Sainsbury's carrier bag.
