Do tell us more! name and shame if neccessary - I would be astonished to see any other business being run in the same way as this. It would also be interesting to know if the beer is good and/or cheap, and if the landlords are being micro managed in the same way as Smiths issue orders on the smallest detail. I am sure we are all looking forward to comparing these companies.

I cannot name and shame to protect the innocent but the company is actually turning away trade and spurning loyal customers who are outraged by the M.D.s new regime. Good, loyal, hard working employees are being shackled from expanding business by these unbelievable restrictions whereas the 'not so hard working employees' are being granted an easy life by shorter working hours. Unbelievable business practices. Low price ales are not the only key to a popular, thriving pub. People make pubs though the good quality, low price beers sold by this business are a great help. Why have these products, educate the customers to appreciate them and then tell the same customers they must now go elsewhere to drink because opening hours have been greatly reduced. Madness!

Look - I know we have to be careful about certain sources of information - but surely this is ridiculous if we can't even name the company you are talking about - what does 'brothers in arms' mean? A company owned by Oliver?

I'm a bit confused because I can't think of another independent brewery of any size that operates managed pubs in Yorkshire, or anywhere else in the North for that matter.

I have no idea which brewery it is, or which breweries use managers, but breweries with their own pubs in Yorkshire include;

Old Mill (Snaith)
Theakstons
Timothy Taylor

Old Mill only have 19 pubs. Theakston has been independent for a number of years since being bought back from S&N but have no tied pubs. Tim Taylor has always had a fairly "old fashioned" attitude and have 29 pubs, but only 9 are managed.

Old Mill Brewery Snaith say they are a small family owned independent brewery, apparently formed in 1983 - so I wonder what family that would be? They don't seem to be a limited company.

This entire thread is about another company whose management style is similar to that of Sam Smiths, so it's hardly going off on a tangent.

The owners are a large double glazing company based (I think) in Goole. Can't remember what the name is though.
