A poorer service?
« on: Sep 12 - 2007 »
Customers may probably notice that more recently, their local Sam Smiths may have become a little less efficient - and that the staff and/or management of that establishment don't seem as friendly.

Well it's understandable - because as Sam Smiths continue to put the squeeze on the number of 'staff hours available' to operate with - then obviously somethings got to give.

Of course the serious issue - is that individual legal rights are probably being jeopardised (with regards to legally allowed staff breaks) - and even more worrying - general health and safety.

But do the brewery care? What do you think?  >:(
Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.

Hi, This is my first attempt at replying to this wonderful site Re:- Sam Smith's, The Brewery & it's policies as promoted by the new area manager A Mr F.O. ???who does not have the best of either manners or man management skills. the Pub is in North Yorkshire.

My Wife worked for 7 years as a contract cleaner and also as the Chef. The pub worked only Tuesdays through to Saturday lunch times only, the clients all became friends over the period I worked behind the bar having obtained my Liquor license. We enjoyed a good food menu with all regulars using the pub many for 30 to 40 years. When the manager was recently retired, without proper notices being served.
The Area manager had recently gone on permanent sick leave and a Mr F.O. took over on the retiring managers leaving day. The new single manageress took over at approximately 11-00am the area manager arrived and spent alomost two hours on the phone without speaking to anyone. At 1-30pm when we were leaving he aproached my wife and said Oh don't bother coming in tomorrow we won,t be needing your services any longer the new landlady will be doing the work.
However I will confirm this by phone before the close of business tonight.

He Did, at 10-48pm he left a message on our answer machine confirming what he had said on the car park. A week later he writes to her and tells her he is shocked that she has decided to leave without giving notice. What a man. How do you combat that? The pub is doing nothing now most of the regulars are giving it a wide berth, how sad is that after many loyal years of support from both customers and staff?

I can confirm everything Mike says. I am a regular at the pub in question. It had a fantastic range of home cooked food which I used to enjoy (although I did always feel they put too much salt in the chilli! - only joking).

The place is just going downhill at a pace. The poor woman who has taken over is being run ragged by Mr OB and it is honestly only a matter of time before she gets fed up of doing things off her own bat in an attempt to improve the place.

I run my own business and if I employed some of the "Customer reduction plans" that Sam's are using, I'd be bust by now. What the HELL do the Chuckle Brothers think they are doing?

 >:( staff hours being cut yet again how can a place be run and only allow 68 staff hours if the pub is open nearly 12 hours a day and have food on at lunch time and have a cleaner keep the pub to the right standard. F.O.B strikes again.
