A google search for Wise Owl Tadcaster comes up with this website: http://www.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/wise-old-owl-property-services-14719308.html

...and tells us it is a property company, but it would just be an assumption to say it's the same one as you found.

By the way, how did you find it, can I ask?

The Wise Owl warehouse has been boarded up for a least 15 years.
It is more than likely a SS property. Wise Owl is a discount retail outlet based in the North of England that is similar to Netto, Superdrug etc.
I think they must have rented the building.

More or less spot on Tadfan, I remember 'shopping' there many moons ago. Used to get some real bargains.  ....

I had a friend who did a freedom of information request a while ago, for Tadcaster this is not the whole list but will post again if any more Samuel Smiths properties come up

That list is unbelievalbe. He owns alot more that I knew about.
He appears to own alot of Selby:
Tate & Lyle and Clariant are the two massive chemical works in Selby.
Newton Kyme is the old paper mill where a developer is trying to build a new village.
All the industrial units around Selby are those built on British Coal land when the Selby mines closed, looks like he owns all of them!

It is strange that Selby District Council rent property from him when they are always at loggerheads.

I notice none of the properties he is alleged to own in Leeds & London are listed.
Also all the residential properties & farms are not listed.

Yes the list is very interesting - but only identifies empty commercial property in the Selby District - and who is responsible for the commercial property rates. I intended to extract the information yesterday from the 'what do they know' website but didn't have enough time! Just for clarification - it is a good indication that Samuel Smith owns all the properties with their name against - but not the rest.

In fairness the list only really shows that SS own a good chunk of Kirkgate which isn't that surprising!

OnTheDrink - I agree - but I think it's nice to have some direct form of confirmation so as to strengthen this growing data base of company assets. It will be interesting to trawl the other FOI responses for other districts in order to flush out other empty commercial property with rate liability attached to Samuel Smith Old Brewery (Tadcaster) - or other subsidiaries of course.
