New cask beer.
« on: Jan 9 - 2011 »
While I'm in a posting mood, anyone think it's time we had another cask beer from Sam? I do. Not wishing to see an ever changing seasonal beer as some brewers have got into, no. What would YOU like to see? Something entriely new, old, modern, a cask version of a current bottled beer, classics or new skool? For me, I'd like a cask stout (Jersey Stout, anyone?). Or a mouth puckering dryhopped real IPA. A mild would tempt as well. Over to the brewery....

Unless I've missed them I have never seen comment on Sams sovereign beer, which is what I and most of my mates drink, the others drink Alpine, my wife drinks Taddy. I started out on OB and liked it till I went to a different Sams and it was cloudy, so I tried Sov, and stuck to it. I think the cloudy issue was a one off though so I arn't knocking it.

Yes, I'd like to see a cask IPA, Stout/Porter and a stronger bitter than OBB.  There used to be "Museum Ale" (or similar) which was regarded highly.

Sam's did brew another, higher gravity, real ale some years ago.  It was called Museum Ale, after the brewery museum in Stamford, Lincolnshire which was formerly the All Saints Brewery of Melbourns Brothers Ltd.  The brewery originally opened in 1825 and was closed in 1974.  The pubs were then supplied by Sam Smith's and the brewery became a museum.  The brewery re-opened under Sam's in 1994 and brews three hand-crafted fruit beers, strawberry, raspberry and cherry.

Lets not forget cask Tadacaster Bitter that had a short life about the same time as Museum Ale was around. I know there's a bottled organic Tadcaster Bitter or Taddy Bitter as it was but is the keg Tadcaster Bitter still brewed?
