Gloucester Pubs
« on: Oct 25 - 2011 »
Had a night in Gloucester last week, just outside our Hotel was a familiar looking pub sign "The Robert Raikes" recently refurbished Sam Smiths pub. Looked like no expense spared for the re-furb, similar to the Spreadeagle at Wragby. Big pub with a lot of rooms and fireplaces etc, well worth a visit but a bit quiet when we visited ( Tue evening ). Round the corner was another Sam's pub "The Old crown" another interesting pub with a very knowledgable relief barman. More of a drinkers pub this one but again well worth a visit.

Hi there, thank you for your account of the Gloucester pubs.  It is much appreciated as we don't hear from some of the more isolated ones.  Did you happen to take any photos?  If so, we'd love to see them.

Thank you again.

DB.

Hi DarkieBoy, I didn't take any photo's but if you Google Geograph and search on SO8318 and SO8218 there are a couple of good pics of both pubs. The Old crown had scaffolding on it when we visited.

Thank you for your post as DB has said, we don't often hear about the pubs down that way.

Heres a link to the BBC website that has some pictures of the Robert Raikes pub

Found another review and set of pictures
