do the barstaff mean nothing
« on: Mar 29 - 2010 »
i find this website very informative but notice that most of the complaints about hs come from managers or ex- managers. there doesnt seem to be  much imput or thought about the barstaff. i worked for this company for 5 years up until today so i have seen first hand the way the pubs seem to be going downhill quickly.when i first started 5 years ago i worked for a lovely couple with years of experience only to be followed by a string of what can only be described as trainees who have no clue how to run a busy pub especially not with the slashed staff hours they have to deal with.i have actually had to quit my job today for the sake of my own sanity due to the totally unreasonable and unrealistic requests from a new, and i use the term very loosely, management couple who quite frankly couldnt organize a pi**-up in a brewery.they seem to think that by following in humps footsteps and bullying people that he wont stab them in the back when the time comes.well what goes around comes around and i am best off out of it but i will miss all of my regular customers.

It's very good to hear another side to the sorry story, and yet more confirmation of what we can all see for ourself when visiting our own favourite Sams pub.

I've been thinking - all this evidence accumulating here on this site might well become a significant factor during future Licence applications. I'm sure Licencing Authorities might find it very interesting to hear about what was going on in other parts of the SSOB empire - for example Bath where Humphrey has been seriously upsetting the locals over his plans for a hotel and 'superpub'. Can the Authorities be confident about granting a Planning permission and Licence with growing evidence of a deteriorating situation in other parts of the business?

of course the barstaff mean nothing, remember his pin money quote, humph couldnt care less about his staff from managers downwards.the new managers he employs i agree are hopeless but its not always there fault, they just dont get the training  or the back up they used to.all they  want as managers now are idiots who are yes people and do everything he says even if they do it wrong

Sorry you have had to pack in a job that you enjoyed, but you have just summed up what happening in most sams houses,i have three near me and all the long term bar staff have gone to be replaced by young people who are in higher education, they only do a few hours a week and they do not stay long,so the bar staff are constantly changing, you never seem to get to know them, part of having a good local is getting to know the staff and them you,i do hope you find a job that you enjoy doing, but your best out of it as you say you left for your own sanity.
