Flicking through the Tv listings last night, I saw a programme entitled "Humph's last stand"!!! Alas it wasnt about our nemesis, but for one glorious minute I was in heaven!

I can remember ayinger being brewed by shipstones brewery in the 80's
then Greenhalls took them over I'm wondering if thats when Sams
took the license over
sorry if we have transgressed from the original post but it has been very
quite of late where is everybody?

First time I visited the brewery was in 1982 and Ayingerbrau was alive and well then. Hump was really proud of it being a real german beer instead of a fake copy and said that the Ayinger Brauerie sent a guy over every year to check quality. In those days Sams used to have shares in Jennings and their pubs all sold Ayingerbrau as well.

"Alpine Drinkers" response to the Ayingerbrau issue is indeed correct to a point,The terms were due to be reconfigured and agreed but Humphrey wanted to pay less since his argument was that he had significantly increased sales year on year and therefore had given Ayingerbrau enormous profits to date . They replied Nein.......and so Humph said Oh well we'll brew the bally stuff ourselves. The information comes from a good friend of mine, whose task in life was to import european beers for the enjoyment of the massses, one of said beers was Ayingerbrau. Alpine came into being circa Spring 2002 possibly.
