I have to agree with Bigjim and wonder why people want to apply to run one of Humph's pubs.  Please read the comments from others and note that there is very little (if anything) complimentary about being a manager with SS.

You may think that you will be different but over two years on from his mass sacking of managers some of those who took over thought they were different and/or believed what Humph told them.

Think about it logically, how can one man employ so many staff who then need to be sacked just before a year or just before they qualify for a pension.  Why can't managers hit their targets.  It's not the fault of the managers but unrealistic expectations and targets together with Humph not understanding the business of managing a pub whilst taking advantage of his wealth and loopholes in the law.

The pay is rubbish, you get over twice as much with other breweries and no expectation of a partner working for peanuts as well.  He only wants two people so that you can get enough sleep to continue.  You'll put up a bond that you are unlikely to get back.  You won't be a manager but a supervisor.  Humph doesn't want managers to manage but to be someone to blame.

For heavens sake listen to the advice you are being given.

As far as aware both the Harewood Arms Hotel,Harewood is in the advert and also the Harewood Arms,Folifoot are both looking for new managers. The one at Folifoot has not had a manager for several months now, i had heard that one of the new managers was meant to get it but has probably not.

New Manager installed at Harewood Arms, Harewood; name is John, ex Services, nice chap.

Hopefully, those who seem to think that Humph wouldn't treat them like this will read this and realise that he treats everyone the same eventually - and it usually doesn't take too long.  You never know with him what will turn him against you.

He really is power mad.  He can't delegate to anyone and that even means day to day management of pubs.  Be warned you don't become a manager but fodder for Humph to have a go at and then play his awful games with you.

Think about it.  There aren't that many pubs and he's always advertising for managers and these are the adverts we find - how many adverts are out there for managers?

The turnover in managers is unbelievable.  It may seems to those wanting to get into the trade to be exagerated - but it isn't - it's most likely underestimated.

He really is a very sad old man who doesn't have any conscience at all.

A good supervisor (which is what he's taken on himself for most of his pubs) should ensure that staff are trained well and supported with problems ironed out and not find fault and blame.

If you are daft enough to apply for a post after reading all the comments - you only have yourself to blame when it goes wrong.  Your have been warned. :'(

Dont you realise, that he sacks most new managers after 11 months now, so that he does have to allow them any employment rights, think about it!!!. that letter i bet is exactly 11 months after they started, plus 1 months notice.

Buster is right.  Until you have been employed for 12 months you don't have any employment rights.  If you do manage to get past 12 months then at 2 years another set of employment rights comes into play.  Hence the reason for finding fault with managers at certain times.  Believe that one month is another milestone because until that time the notice he has to give is only a week.

Unfortunately, he seems to understand employment law quite well and uses it to play his nasty horrible perverted games with people's lives.  Then when you do have the law on your side he throws his money at it and wears people down or carries on so long that you or the union can't fight any longer because of the expense.   :'(
