Samuel Smiths Brewery Website
« on: Aug 22 - 2010 »
Have jsut come across a website that seems to be fairly new and created for the brewery.Anyone have any ideas why this secretive company suddenly appears to have a website. A later thought was that its for the exports part of the business as they are now exporting to both America and Asia.

What is interesting to note is that it was only registed on the 20/08/10...just three days ago!  If I'd know it was available I'd have registered it myself.

Should Samcrime 786 be advertising on this website? I have reported both of his posts.

Having briefly read the Terms and Conditions of the brewery's official website, I was surprised to see that they require you to get written permission from themselves before viewing their website!

The website, or any portion of it, may not be reproduced, duplicated, copied, cold, resold, visited, or otherwise exploited for commercial purposes without Sam Smith?s written consent.

Who writes this stuff? Surely it's in error!? I don't think they've considered the fact that search engines and various caches are continually copying the content of open web pages on the Internet.

I also note that they refer to themselves as 'Sam Smiths'. Shouldn't that be Samuel Smiths Old Brewery (Tadcaster)? Surely they are not trying to pass themselves off as us! ;)

We should all write to Samuel Smith's Brewery (Tadcaster) and ask for permission to view their website.

For your information, the brewery address is:

Mr Humprey RW Smith
Samuel Smith Old Brewery
Tadcaster
North Yorkshire
LS24 9SB

The address is on their website (so I am told), but obviously you probably don't have permission to view it, so I have done the decent thing and posted it here!

Yours farcically,

DB.

I wonder if the brewery realize, that every time an individual visits their website, a copy of their page, and all of their images are usually saved into the viewers browser cache. So I suppose people would need to also ask permission for their browsers cache to remain active - which for most web users is their default setting.
If it's not broken - it's been fixed!

I think that we could all have some fun posting letters to Samuel Smith's Brewery (Tadcaster) and asking these sort of questions.

And just look at the Google cached page - oh no, you can't, not without permission!!

I wonder when Google inc. will be receiving a solicitor's letter from Travers Smith Solicitors for breaching the terms and conditions?

Hump's has the option to password protect or shut down his site. Otherwise he should wind his neck in and get a life, (and a new jacket, pair of shoes, personality etc).

How do you access the website ?
All I get is a web page with photographs which can be viewed in their own window, and a link to their terms and conditions.
Is their a hidden link somewhere?

That's it - that's the full website! I trust you wrote to the brewery first to get permission to view their website web page?  ;)

Some people get their guilty pleasures online by viewing porn - I just set my homepage to Hump's site and glory in the knowledge I don't have his permission!
