Pubs for Sale around Tadcaster
« on: Aug 29 - 2010 »
I have seen for sales boards outside the Falcon Inn and White Swan for a while and thought i would have a quick look at the estate agents website. It turns out that the Falcon Inn is under offer and another pub near Tadcaster is also under offer, i wonder if Humphrey has bought them or not.

Very interesting - they certainly look like the sort of pub that would fit into the estate - and the temptation for Humphrey to snap them up must be enormous - but surely there must be a limit to how many pubs you own in a town?! Sorry - for a minute there I had a logic lapse - this is Samuel Smith's we're talking about here!

The rumour is he has bought The Falcon.
Rumour also is that he plans to demolish it.

Probably part of his masterplan to own all the land that surrounds the Selby District Council owned car park. They have argued over the car park & town regeneration for the last 20 years.

Rumour and Humphrey - like lies and politicians - they just seem so natural together! I can well understand why he wants to own the whole of Tadcaster, but demolishing a pub - especially a nice old looking pub, seems so very much out of character - a bit like selling anything. Ok there have been isolated examples of both happening, but invariably due to exceptional circumstances, normally beyond his control and which I can't see here yet. In relation to his battle with Selby District Council over redevelopment and the car park, I guess its still stalemate how ever much he owns - would any locals mind explaining what the current state of play is? Is there any current planning approval for anything? Cheers.

On the Tadcaster town official site, postings on the message board suggest that H.S. has bought the Falcon and intends to flatten it!

Been past today and the curtains have reopened again and a notice from the licensing office to change the opening hours slightly. It was dated the 27 September and people have 10 days to object, so it looks like it is still going to be a public house. So has Humphrey bought it or not

Notice is up revoking the 1:00am licence and reverting to 11:00pm. Sounds very familiar. ::)

I stand to be corrected, but there is an unnecessary cost in changing the license.  Even if the pub maintained a 1am license, but closed at 11pm, it would not cost.

Sounds to me like a minor variation. White notice displayed for ten days. Costs about ?80.

Yes it seems to be a minor variation to the license. I will pass through Tadcaster at the end of next week and check what has happened to the pub as people have 10 days to object to the hours.

Been through Tadcaster today and the Falcon has had the old beer pumps taken out. Not alot of change apart from that.

Also heard today that the Doorman, Stutton Road has been bought by a property developer, but is still opening as a pub for 2 years. Not sure whether this is tha law or not.
