Sam Smith's forced me out says tenant

    * 23/06/2005

A Sam Smith's tenant has accused the company of forcing him out in order to convert the pub to a managed house.

The Cheshire-based tenant, who wishes to remain anonymous, said he and his wife have been forced to quit the pub after 22 years because the rent has tripled from ?27,000 a year to ?80,000.

'I am fortunate enough to be able to retire and have put our notice in but others are not so lucky. The pub will become a managed house with no television and no music.

The tenant feels he has been pushed out to allow the pub to become managed. 'Effectively, they have made it impossible for us to stay, he said.

Sam Smith's had no comment.

Always in support of the Samuel Smiths Brewery - although very concerned about the current company strategy towards its staff and customers, as exercised by the Directors. We believe in promoting common sense, decency, compassion, fairness and compliance with company, employment and English law.
