Why so Cloak and Dagger?
« on: Jan 9 - 2009 »
So as you all know I got sacked by one of Humpha Dumphs Lackeys last autumn and I've been out of work ever since with a huge millstone round my neck. >:(

Anyway...

I'm applying for anything I can get and I get a response from an email account info@workinapub.co.uk
They offered me and interview and said they would send me details in the post.
The admin person confirmed my details and the date for the interview.

3 days later the info came in the post.
To my absolute surprise
It was from Sam Smiths South.
All the way thru the first contact until she sent me the info she never told me it was for Sam smiths.
What?s with all the cloak and dagger?
I had the embarrassment of telling them Sam smiths sacked me and Mr. Humphrey wouldn?t want them to hire me again.

You should have turned up for the interview to take the p**s out of them!

It just goes to show how efficient they are, if their records are so up to date that they invite someone along for an interview who they have already sacked....

But the true reason for their anonymity in the recruitment process is the same reason as not putting their company name above the pub door - they're so ashamed of their business that they don't want to advertise it.

Hope you get a job soon - with a decent employer.
A pint before the trouble starts.....

Last year he put a card in our local Post Office window when he was absolutely desperate for a manager for the Sams pub I was working at!! Classy way of doing business!! Wonder if Humpf grumbled at the 25p it probably cost him to keep it there for a week!!  ;D ;D

Very interesting. I did a trace on the domain name 'workinapub.co.uk' and see it's registered as a UK individual, so no address needs to be listed (more cloak & dagger). The individual name registered is Michael Martin. Full info here

The site seems to be built by BuildingBox Ltd, who's domain is also, wrongly registered as an UK individual, when it should be as a Limited Company. They too (if not one of the same) seem also 'cloak and dagger'.

It would seem as if the website is dedicated to promoting Sam Smiths vacancies only! certainly when I checked, every vacancy was for a Sams Pub.

I had to laugh at the requirements for management couples..

----------------------------------

What qualities do you need?

You need to have:

Previous customer service experience is essential. Some supervisory experience and an interest in catering is desirable.

Outgoing personalities, an ability to socialise with a variety of people, a flexible approach to work, and a desire to succeed in a customer-focussed retail environment.

Enthusiasm, good health, a positive attitude, drive and an abundance of energy and stamina, genuine commitment to working together to achieve results.

Pride and professionalism to deliver excellent standards and service that puts your pub ahead of the competition.

A minimum of four GCSEs or O Levels which should include Maths and English.

NO unspent convictions and NO convictions that would prevent you from holding a liquor licence.

-------------------------

It didn't mention of course, that you have to be crazy!  ;)

So it will be interesting to see if anyones jobs are being advertised before they are aware of their impending removal.

So read all about it here..

Since the above post, and having done a little more research, I can categorically state that the website http://www.workinapub.co.uk is a Sams website - which is why it's very 'cloak and dagger' - typically adhering to the Sams stealth policy.

I checked up on an email address / domain name associated with one of the pub vacancies (but no website), but same guy Michael Martin, who claims to be the website owner at the address of sams very own 'Crown and Sugarloafe' pub. Info

At last the brothers Grimm are beginning to realise that nobody wants to work for the SS, at least that is the impression i get from your last post Admin.
fancy having to advertise for managers in such a secretive way, well if anyone gets taken on they will soon realise and they will not be around long, when they realise what the job entails and the wage that is under the minimum level.
I wonder how much it is costing them to keep replacing managers, one pub that we know of, had the manager sacked in November, because their attitude was wrong, since then this pub has had no less than 4 management couples, and guess what they have all left, when they realised the magnitude of the task in front of them.
that old song comes to mind, 'WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN'

Interesting stuff. A swift search of the electoral roll shows no-one by the name of Michael Martin registered as living anywhere on Bride Lane, london. I wonder if he actually exists or is it just a nom-de-plume?!  I also think that even though this "Work in a Pub" website is a higher tech version of cards in a shop window, they will fall foul of legislation governing employment agencies, and it's not registered as a business with HM Revenue & Customs.
