Just found out Humphrey has made a good decision for once, possibly the best in his life. And sacked those awful cretins from the Oyster Bar.
I will be returning for a pint now their reign of terror is over!

I went to SOB over the weekend and also found that there was still no cask ale.  I also discovered that most of the pub (apart from the front bar) was closed for refurbishment.  Does anyone know what exactly is being refurbished and how long it will take?

The only bar that was open had a "production line" mentallity to it and there was not the opportunity to speak to the one and only barmaid (despite it being really busy in the beer garden)...she also was not very forthcoming as an employee and a person, as I perceived it...therefore, any questioning would have been useless (again, as I perceived it).  The impression that I got from her was that she was there to serve and to serve only - although this could just be that it was really busy.  I must add that she did cope admirably by herself.

DB.

PS As a person that works behind a bar I know what it can be like when it is really busy and you are by yourself, so I chose not to cause any further problems.  Flipant would be a mis-representation of myself, I do believe.

Has SOB now fully re-opened after refurbishment?  When I went only the front bar/room was open and you couldn't drink inside.

Called in last night before the Peter Kay Concert at the MEN Arena. Nice to have a coupla pint of Sams mixed cos' I am still barred from the Greyhound in Clayton-le-Moors............Very busy and current Mrs P asked one of the staff " Excuse me where are the ladies toilets" Reply was " You will have to use the pub next door, the toilets are closed for refurbishment....... How do they get away with that?
As they say in Oswaldtwistle " If you catch a weasel asleep, you can pi** in it's ear"

The IRA didn't manage to destroy it, but "progress" might succeed.  Unfortunately, cask hasn't been available at SOB for some time now.  However, the adjoining pub has around eight cask ales...worth a visit if you have a bob or two.
